Michael McKay is President of the highly acclaimed production house, activeTV, based in Australia and Singapore. He is a highly experienced, award winning, TV production executive with over 30 years of network broadcast experience. He is Executive Producer of E! News Asia for NBCU and Executive Producer of The Amazing Race Asia, Australia, Israel, Philippines (TV5) and the upcoming Ukrainian version. Michael has created or co-created numerous original formats including Ultimate Escape (AXN), Can You Serve (Mediacorp), and Driving Change (Nat Geo). In 2011 he was awarded Best Director at the Asian TV Awards.

Park Sang Joon is the Head Director, Media Production Department of CJ E&M China, he has directed many renowned infotainment shows including music performances, reality shows and entertainment shows. He has also discovered Korean idols such as Kim Soo Hyun. With years of experience in directing live performances and managing production crews, he was appointed as the Head Director for many annual Korean award shows, displaying his on-site management charisma. Ik Joon Kwon joined CJ E&M in May 2011 and in August, he was appointed as Deputy General Manager of CJ E&M China overseeing the TV production. In May 1991, he started with the Performing and Entertainment Department of MBC as TV Director producing acrobatic performance, sitcom and entertainment shows. Then he was sent to China to manage Chinese and Korean co-production from 2005 to 2008, later he was appointed as the Head of the Performing and Entertainment Department from 2008 to 2011.

With more than 20 years of experience in the content business, Nop has become an expert at all facets of the industry. He graduated with a BA in Communication Arts-Advertising and Public Relations from Bangkok University and a MA in Mass Communications, Communications Policy and Planning from Thammasat university, and has gathered extensive experience in Creative, Client Service, Strategic Planning and Production in TV and Entertainment businesses. Mayyi Lee is VP of Regional Production & Development for National Geographic Channels Asia, based in Taiwan. With over 16 years in TV and film Mayyi is responsible for overseeing factual production and development in the region. Mayyi originally joined National Geographic TV & Film in 1998, where she worked in production operations. Later she joined National Geographic Television and Film’s Natural History Unit, and later moved on to join the National Geographic Channel’s Third Party Programming group as an associate producer on “Snake Wranglers” and “Taboo”. Mayyi has developed and produced shows in the U.S., Australia, Africa, and Asia, i.e. Taiwan, Mainland China, Korea, and Malaysia.

Tony Qi, VP and Territory Head for FIC has been in the media industry for over 15 years, with experience in content, investment, strategy and business development in China and Asia. Paul O’Hanlon is Managing Director of FremantleMedia Asia, based in Singapore. He has overseen many productions including the pan regional success stories Apprentice Asia and Asia’s Got Talent. O’Hanlon has extensive experience as a television executive in a diverse group of territories including Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, India and Afghanistan. Prior to joining FMA in February 2011, O’Hanlon was International Advisor and Programme Director with Next TV in Taiwan. Prior to this, he spent five years with Star TV as Senior Vice President of Production, based in Hong Kong.

With extensive knowledge and experience in content sourcing, production, and distribution, Julia now works closely with GroupM China’s Trading team and Agencies to identify contents that create the best value for brands, rights holders, and platforms. Her most recent role was Director of International and Associate Director of Format Center at Beijing-based production house 3C Media. Julia has been involved with bringing formats to air in China such as The Symptom (Thailand) and Master Class (Israel).

Riaz is the Founder and President of Imagine Group, established in Singapore in 2005, and is now Asia’s leading Reality TV Series Production house. Riaz is also a pioneer in branded content in Asia where he has created partnerships with global brands for world class TV content. Imagine Group TV shows broadcast in over 40 countries worldwide including Asia, USA, Australia and Europe. In 2012, Imagine Group received an International Emmy Award nomination for ‘The Challenger Muaythai’ and in the genre-defining ‘The Apartment’ series, which has broken new ground in Asian reality TV, and was made with an almost entirely local crew.

James Ross is the CEO of Lightning International, the MD of TRACE Asia-Pacific, and Founder of FORMATS ASIA. James worked for the BBC and Bloomberg Television for many years, before moving to ITV in 2006. The role involved establishing ITV’s Asian business, developing a profitable syndication unit, launching ITV formats in China and India, and creating the ITV Choice TV channel. James launched Lightning International in 2011, and the company is focused on creating and distributing TV channels, programmes, and formats. Lightning currently represents many brands including TRACE, Mezzo Live HD, Blink TV, Banijay, The Group Entertainment, Active TV, Imagine Group, Australia Channel, RTHK, TV Asahi, and many others. James is based in Hong Kong, and has been living and working in Asia for the past 19 years.
- Marc Lorber, International Development-Acquisitions, Formats & Co-Productions, Lionsgate
Lionsgate Television tasks Marc with overseeing their international format acquisitions and sales, and UK acquisition and development activities. Before Lorber served as Senior Vice President, Original Programming and Production and Executive Producer for HBO Europe. While at HBO, he ramped up feature-length regional documentary productions to some 20+ per year, including the division’s first-ever nomination and win at the 2010 International Emmy’s for Romania’s, THE WORLD ACCORDING TO ION B. As a member of the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences, Marc was elected Governor from their largest branch, TV Executives, for 2007-09.
- Arturo Casares, Executive Director & Producer, LR Studio
Arturo is a Mexican director and producer that has lived in China for the last 11 years. With a background in media and communications, in 2006 Arturo got involved in the Chinese motion pictures business. He’s been executive producer of more than 280 hours of TV series in China with the Chinese version of Ugly Betty being the most successful of them. He has directed award winning short films and many corporate videos for multiple international brands. His last project is a documentary about the Chinese female team whose attempt to climb Everest was halted by the terrifying avalanche of 25th of April at South Everest base camp.
- Takao Yaoi, Manager, Format Development & Sales, Nippon TV
Yaoi graduated from the University of Tokyo and he joined Nippon TV in 1987. He has worked at its in-house production division for over 18 years. He directed and produced many entertainment shows, especially prime time reality entertainment. He also co-produced the historical show “Da Vinci Secrets” with the BBC and won the Galaxy Award 2004. Since 2014, he has been developing and selling formats and in co-productions, mainly for the China market. Many of the resulting shows were broadcast by Hunan TV, Jiangsu TV, Qinghai TV, Beijing KAKU TV and others.

Wu Wen Bo was a doctoral graduate of the Communication University of China. He is appointed Director of Phoenix School Research Center of the Communication University of China, Director of Asian Television Research Center, and is a research expert in international formats. He organised and hosted many industry events including the first Chinese and English Television Summit, the first Chinese and Korean Television Summit and Programme Exchange Conference, European and American Latest Formats Exhibition, and Provincial Channels and City Station Programmes Showcase. He also provided consultation services to many organisations, from Yinhan Media, Fleet Entertainment, Yunnan TV, Anhui Radio & TV Station to Korean companies including SBS, CJ E&M and KOEN.

As Chief Creative Officer, Michael oversees all content development, acquisition and production activities.
Michael has worked in the television industry for more than 20 years, specifically in the fields of broadcasting, producing, commissioning and development. Michael's subsequent positions included TV Director at entertainment producer BRAINPOOL, Creative Producer for RTL Television's entertainment department, Executive Producer and Consultant for Granada Germany and Director Editorial at young entertainment station VIVA. Michael joined the ProSiebenSat.1 Group in 2005 where he received a German TV award for his production, several German comedy awards and the prestigious Grimme Award.
- IlJoong Kim, Director of Creative Oasis Lab, SBS, KOREA
IljoongKIM started his career as an entertainment show writer in 1991 and soon he became a star writer producing more than 10 top-rated talk shows and entertainment shows in South Korea until 2004. After passing through several splendid experience of his own such as a format consultant of tvN (CJ E&M, South Korea), a senior researcher of Digital Media Contents Formatting Lab which was ran by Korea National University of Arts, and a deputy director of a production department in TV Chosun (South Korea), his recent title is the director of Creative Oasis Lab (CO LAB) which is taking charge of global format strategy of SBS, one of the biggest network in South Korea. Involving in many projects from format developing to format distribution, Iljoong and CO LAB is trying their best to lead SBS to become a key player in the international format business.

Gary has been living in Hong Kong since 2001 and undertaking business with Asian markets since 1996. Gary is the Managing Director of the Sparks | Eccho group South East Asia who are best know for marketing Asian entertainment formats to the rest of the world and for the sales of Middle Eastern drama globally. Garys own experience is diverse including marketing hits such as Who Wants to Be A Millionaire to the first 3D CGI animation of Hello Kitty. Gary is also heavily active with branded content as Sparks | Eccho represent the UK based branded content company Precious Media who’s clients include Diageo, itunes, Unilver, Shell Oils, Nissan and Sony.
- Javier Paez, Sales Manager, Televisa
Javier Paez began his professional career in the Marketing and Sales divisions at British American Tobacco where he developed a new sales structure for the company, launched two new products and managed marketing and sales for the city of Leon, in Mexico. In 2010 he co-founded Quirk, a Marketing and Branding consultancy and as Head of Creative and Special Projects was able to work in projects with brands such as Renault, Absolut and Buchanan’s. After moving to the USA in 2011, Javier was invited to join Televisa as Sales Manager for pay-TV in Latin America and now has responsibility as Sales and BD Project Manager for the Asia-Pacific region.

Benny is the Deputy Director of Format Development, Online Video Division of Tencent Video. In prior to his career with Tencent, he served as the Director of Format Centre, TVZone Co. Ltd (Changsha) and the Director, Department of R&D, Vivid Media (Shanghai). Luo has more than 10 years experience in the media industry both in China and the United Kingdom.
- Toshikazu Sugae, Vice President, Yomiuri-TV Enterprise
Toshikazu Sugae began his career in the news department at terrestrial broadcaster Yomiuri Telecasting Corp. in 1984, where he served as director of a news show for 15 years. After moving to YTV's programming division, he began development of the company's digital and IT strategy. In 2012, he was appointed to the post of vice president at Yomiuri-TV Enterprise, a subsidiary of YTV, and has since been developing the company's international format business.

Patrick Frater has over 20 years of experience writing about and analysing the international film industry, with publications including Variety, Screen International and The Hollywood Reporter. He was Asia Editor of Variety between 2005 and 2009 and re-joined the publication in July 2013. In 2010, he co-founded regional film trade publication Film Business Asia and consultancy firm F Media.
